Bop: Eating Chicken Heart Part Deux

Moon Man 1
By Nancy Woo

Song lyrics from Metric’s “Help, I’m Alive”

Obsession. Distance running across
neon wavelengths of the mind,
the heart expands to touch the deepest
reaches of the jungle. Your jungle is a cage
where wildness is domesticated into meat.
I am a wind storm. Wanting to shake you.

Can you hear my heart beating like a hammer?

Third eye radar Monday morning, your thin
blazer barely fights the gust on the streets
you pave with fake gold, a woman behind you
pushing the stake deeper in, always. You let her.
It’s been months. My eye still follows your
movements. Can you feel my breath on the wind,
anywhere in your chicken heart? These jaws
are hungry, and focused. Waiting for a chick to crow.

Can you hear my heart beating like a hammer?

I long-distance penetrate your penitentiary, grab the little
marble of flesh and swallow it raw. Hear you squawk,
like punishment for the crime of ignorance. Spin you
out of your wired bed and make you forgive. I eat your feathers
for breakfast every morning without you knowing.
How a she-wolf paces around the edges of the coop, delirious.

Can you hear my heart beating like a hammer?
