The Chatelaine of Lyonesse

You’re the earthly part of me
I don’t publicly acknowledge,
the one who keeps the wheels
of my domain turning while
I rule from the summit of my ego.

I’ve always been aligned with
the rise and fall of the sun,
as stated in my natal legacy,
but all the parts of a body
need care, prosperity, and
medals pinned to the chest
with pomp and ceremony.

What would I do without you,
who clears the ground of stones
and puddles, guides me through
the lean and excess, and quietly
exiles naysayers to the shadows?

What would I do without you,
my steadfast savior, dearer to me
than all the rest – you
the key to my kingdom?
