Underwater

If I could
I would
live underwater

dolphin swim
the length
of the pool

pop up
only when
starving for air

dive down to the sand
just beyond
the breaking waves

grab a handful
then rest
at the bottom

push up
break the surface
stare up
at the cloudless blue

as the sand
washes slowly
from my open palm

play scuba diver
alone in the pool

lost in my
great adventure

then drift
slowly
to the bottom
of the pool

staring at the
surface as the
chlorine makes
my eyes
lightning red
