Jessica grew up in Long Beach. Her year at Orange County School of the Arts (at age sixteen) made her realize her love for poetry. It was a way for her to express all of the dormant thoughts and images she had, which when put into poetry form, somehow made sense. She won the school’s poetry award that year. In 2007 there was the exciting opportunity to teach poetry in rural South Africa as a volunteer to ESL high school students. It was only for two months but the experience was very memorable.
